Summer Mountain Getaway in Aspen, Colorado

Located in the Rocky Mountains, nestled within the Roaring Fork Valley, Aspen has long been a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Though known primarily as a world-class ski town, it’s no secret that it’s also a great warm-weather vacation destination, with mountain trails, winding rivers, forest landscapes, and a sophisticated downtown area just waiting to be explored.

There are four unique mountains here to play on, providing over 5,500 acres of gorgeous natural terrain. Aspen Mountain, rising from the heart of town, attracts visitors with miles of scenic trails, on-mountain dining, easy access, and a calendar full of fun summertime activities. Buttermilk Mountain is home to some of the best hidden bike trails in the valley. Aspen Highlands, a local favorite, features incredible backcountry wilderness and amazing views of the iconic Maroon Bells. And Snowmass, the largest of the four, offers everything from hiking trails and resort activities to a zipline, ropes course, disc golf, and even an alpine coaster.

In summer months, Aspen’s snow-covered slopes are replaced with lush green meadows blooming with wildflowers; the surrounding forests teem with wildlife; and clear, blue skies stretch endlessly overhead, creating an idyllic backdrop to the high-end hotels and shops that populate the town. For this trip, you’ll enjoy deluxe accommodations at one of Aspen’s luxury resort hotels, conveniently located in the heart of downtown, walking distance to the Silver Queen Gondola as well as some of Aspen’s best restaurants and attractions. With spacious rooms featuring plush bedding, chic décor, lovely views, and a variety of on-site amenities, you’ll have everything you need for relaxing nights in after days spent adventuring outdoors.

During your stay, we’ve arranged for you to go on a private, guided hike to the Maroon Bells, the most photographed peaks in North America. On this half-day, customizable tour, you’ll follow your experienced guide along scenic trails in the stunning Snowmass Wilderness, where you’ll learn more about the wildlife and ecosystem of the area, stop to take in the views, and experience the magic of this incredible mountain landscape in person. Snacks and drinks will be provided, but don’t forget to bring your camera!

You’ll also enjoy a “choose your own adventure day” where you can decide between a half-day rafting trip down one of Aspen’s whitewater rivers or a half-day Jeep tour of local backcountry and mountain passes. On the water, you’ll experience a mix of mellow floats and exciting rapids, paddle past beautiful scenery and wildlife, and learn more about the river and the history of the area from your expert guide. On land, you can sit back and relax in the comfort of a custom Jeep, as your guide drives you through aspen groves, spruce forests, and wildflower meadows before climbing above the tree line for unbelievable panoramic views of the valley below. Along the way, you’ll keep an eye out for wildlife and learn more about the area’s history, flora, and fauna. Both adventures last about 4.5 hours and are excellent ways to explore Aspen’s great outdoors and soak up the fresh Colorado air and sunshine.

 

Between excursions, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy Aspen at your own pace. Stroll along the sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly streets of downtown to check out the eclectic mix of high-end boutiques, casual and fine dining restaurants, galleries, and more. Try the brews at Aspen Tap House or sample the spirits at nearby Woody Creek Distillery. Bike the Rio Grande Trail or explore one of the mountain’s single-track paths. Take the Silver Queen Gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a quiet afternoon at the John Denver Sanctuary at Rio Grande Park. Fish in one of the high mountain lakes or streams. Or relax with a luxurious spa treatment at Yarrow or the Remède Spa at St. Regis.
