Unforgettable Family-Friendly Getaway to Portugal
EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW
This family-friendly trip to Portugal takes you to three of the country’s most beautiful regions—Lisbon, Porto, and the Douro Valley—where you’ll see the sights, tour historic towns, and enjoy fun, hands-on experiences.
Your vacation begins in the coastal city of Porto, where you’ll be met at the airport and taken to the elegant InterContinental Porto Hotel, located in the heart of the historic district. Set in a renovated 18th century palace, this 5-star hotel features stylish guestrooms with high ceilings, flat screen TVs, free WiFi, spacious bathrooms, and beautiful city views, as well as onsite dining, spa, and fitness center.
While here, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable tour of the city with your private guide, visiting historic landmarks and major attractions tailored to your interests. Take in the sights, sounds, and stunning architecture as you explore the Douro River, Cathedral of Porto, and São Bento Train Station, have lunch in the city center, and immerse yourself in Porto’s rich history and culture.
The next day, you’ll take a morning Market Tour of Matoshinhos, a bright and bustling portside fish and farmer’s market filled with stalls of colorful, fresh produce, seafood, and more. You’ll follow the tour with a hands-on private cooking class with a local chef, where you’ll learn the secrets of some of Portugal’s most beloved recipes and then sit down to enjoy the meal you’ve prepared
From lovely Porto, you’ll head to the lush Douro Valley for two nights at the Quinta de S. Bernardo Winery and Farmhouse, a small, boutique hotel set within the vineyards of a family winery on the banks of the Douro River. Spend the day touring the valley with your private guide, driving through a landscape of rolling hills and greenery to visit vineyards and historic villages, take a boat ride on the river, and have a picnic lunch outdoors at a traditional Douro Valley winery.
In the evening, relax in your spacious guest room—complete with air conditioning, minibar, clawfoot tub, complimentary WiFi, and luxury linens and cozy touches—go for a swim in the outdoor pool, or have a true farm-to-table dinner at the hotel’s chic restaurant. There’s also an outdoor covered terrace overlooking the river to enjoy, as well as an organic garden and an indoor family room with comfy sofas, board games, and pool table.
After the valley tour, the rest of your stay at Quinta de S. Bernardo is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Consider a visit to nearby Pinhão and the Casal de Loivos, tour the hotel’s onsite winery, stroll the walking paths along the river, or just relax by the pool or in the garden with a glass of wine.
From the Douro Valley, you’ll travel to Lisbon via private car, enjoying a leisurely drive that includes visits to the charming town of Aveiro (nicknamed “Little Venice” because of its many canals), the famous fishing village and surf town of Nazaré, and the medieval town of Óbidos, set within castle walls.
In Lisbon, you’ll check in at the chic Corpo Santo Hotel, located in the colorful Cais do Sodré neighborhood. A perfect blend of classic and contemporary design, the guest rooms here are spacious and modern, filled with luxury touches, cozy seating areas, and comfortable décor designed to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep, so you’ll wake the next morning rested, refreshed, and ready to see the sights. The hotel also features a Living and Leisure Room exclusively for guests, an onsite bistro and separate bar, free walking tours of the area, and a full-service spa.
While in Lisbon, you’ll enjoy an exciting Fado dinner live show in Bairro Alto (one of the city’s most famous neighborhoods). You’ll also take a full day driving and walking tour of the city with a private guide, visiting Saint George’s Castle and the shops and cafes of Alfama, tasting Portugal’s famous Pastel de Nata, and exploring the iconic monuments in Belém, just west of Lisbon.
On the last full day of your trip, you’ll visit the charming town of Sintra (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to explore the majestic, hilltop Pena Palace, walk the town’s quaint narrow streets and have a traditional beachside lunch before continuing on to enjoy breathtaking views at Cabo da Roca (the westernmost point of continental Europe) and the gorgeous coastline of Cascais.
You’ll wrap up the day—and your amazing vacation—back at the hotel, where you can relax and enjoy one more night in Portugal’s capital city before heading home.
